How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe That Actually Works
Seven pieces, thirty outfits, one decision a day. A practical guide to owning less and dressing better.
A capsule wardrobe is not about owning less for its own sake. It is about removing the number of decisions between waking up and getting out the door. Most people spend around seven minutes choosing what to wear. Seven minutes, every single day, multiplied by thousands of days.
The trick is to start from the bottom up. Pick trousers and outerwear first, because everything else has to work with them. A straight-leg trouser in a neutral colour will accept more tops than anything else you own. Once the base is right, the rest gets easy.
Choose fabrics over labels. A merino crew, a cotton tee and a waxed jacket will cycle through a decade of winters together. A trend-led piece will not. Look at the composition before you look at the name on the tag.
Finally, write down what you actually reach for. Not what you planned to wear — what you wore most in the last three months. Your real wardrobe is the one in that list. The rest is just expensive storage.
